Global Warming heats up Washington

Al Gore will give testimony today to the both the House and the Senate. At 9:30 AM EST he will be on a panel speaking for action to combat global warming before a joint session of the Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce chaired by Representative John Dingell of Michigan and the Subcommittee on Energy and Environment of the House Committee on Science and Technology chaired by Bart Gordon of Tennessee. The session is entitled "Perspectives on Climate Change," and will also have a panel speaking against action to combat global warming headed up by Bjorn Lomborg, author of The Skeptical Environmentalist. The entire session will be streamed on the internet both on the website of the House itself and on C-Span. There is already a call-in discussion going on at the C-Span site with Representative Rick Boucher of Virginia, who sits on the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

The former chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Joe Barton of Texas, took up a full half hour at the start of the meeting, for points of "parliamentary order" that included lambasting Al Gore for not providing written copy of his talk until early this morning.
