Climate Change at the G8 Summit

The report of the recently concluded G8 Summit is available to read or download (PDF) here. On first glance, the most noteable statement for me is:


52. We acknowledge that the UN climate process is the appropriate forum for negotiating future global action on climate change.

This appears to be a direct snub to the United States government's attempt to use the G8 to negotiate an agreement that would circumvent the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gas reductions. This point was made previously in at least one comment at the blog RealClimate.
