Endangering Endangered Species

Rushing to action before the new Obama administration takes office, the current Department of the Interior (DOI) has issued new regulations to castrate its own protection of endangered species. The new regulations will eliminate the requirement that federal agencies seek advice from DOI biologists in decisions about whether dams, towers, highways and other projects will likely harm imperiled species.

The Bush administration has been working at this a while. Over a year ago, we blogged about the purge of wildlife biologists from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
